

Earl Merritt, age 74, of Rochester Hills Michigan/Punta Gorda Florida passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who meant everything to him.
Earl was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen Merritt, who passed away in October 2025. Together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another and their family.
A veteran of the United States Army, Earl served his country with honor before dedicating his career to working as a mechanic. He was known for his strong work ethic, skilled hands, and willingness to help anyone in need. Whether fixing an engine or lending a hand to a friend, Earl took pride in doing things the right way.
Above all else, Earl was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is lovingly survived by his children, Eric (Tracey) Merritt, Earl (Anna) Merritt, Brian (Alisa) Merritt, and Jennifer (Andrew) Brennan. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Alexa, Mackenzie, Erin, Ryan, Ava, Nathan, Isabella, Emily, Kirsten, and Kate, and a treasured great-grandfather to Jivanni and Leya.
Earl’s family was the greatest joy of his life. He loved spending time with those he loved, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. He had a free spirit and an adventurous heart, always ready for whatever came next. He was a gifted storyteller whose tales could make people laugh, reminisce, and smile, and he never passed up the opportunity to enjoy a favorite sweet treat.
Those who knew Earl will remember his kind heart, his sense of humor, his adventurous nature, and the unconditional love he gave to his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his stories, his laughter, and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Earl’s legacy is one of love, service, hard work, and family. His memory will forever be a blessing to those who were fortunate enough to call him husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
Earl will be laid to rest with the love of his life in his home state of Michigan.
