Edward Winslow Rutledge, 75, of Port Charlotte, died on July 16. Born December 20, 1950 in Goldsboro, NC to Claud G. Rutledge and Mabel Baldwin Rutledge.
Graduated from A.C.Flora High School, 1969, Columbia SC. Attended Heyward Gibbes Elementary and Middle School, Columbia SC. Obtained Associate Degree in Information Technology from Midlands Technical College, Columbia SC.
Retired as a Field Tech Engineer from various companies including AT&T and IBM. He retired with 23 years in the Naval Reserves.
Was active in the Singing Men of America, Deacon at Family Church of Port Charlotte as well as other ministries.
Enjoyed working and restoring classic cars, singing in his church choir and camping in the mountains of NC with Shelley and his dog, Bentley.
Preceded in death by his parents. Survived by his wife, Shelley Newcombe Rutledge of 14 years; Sisters, Claudia Draffin (Dr. Richard Draffin) and Lynne Garren (Julian Robert Garren);
Children, Tara Hamilton (Brad), Meredith Hatchell (Tim), Ryan Rutledge (Becky), Lauren Howman (Kyle) and Matthew Rutledge (Taylor). Grandchildren: Rowan Hamilton, Porter Hamilton, Keegan Hatchell, Avery Hatchell and Samara Hatchell, Cole Howman and Cameron Howman.
Services are to be held at Family Church, 20035 Quesada Ave. Port Charlotte on July 30, 2026 at 10:30 am with burial at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, FL at 2:30 pm. If you would like to send flowers to the family, please send them to Family Church.
