

George C. Milk, 96, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. He was born March 15, 1921, in Jersey City, NJ. He grew up at and resided at Indian Lake, Denville, NJ before moving to Port Charlotte in 1983 with his (predeceased) wife Dora. George is survived by his son, Duane (wife Sandy) of Wesley Chapel, his brother, Robert Milk (wife Tracie), his grandson, Jeffrey, his granddaughter, Lorin Banks (husband Daniel), his great grandson, Austin Banks, and his 2 great granddaughters, Julia Banks and Astrid Banks. He was also predeceased by his sister, Carolyn and his 2nd wife, Shirley (Shay).
He served in the US Navy from 1942-1945, Armed Guard during WW II.
He was plumber by trade and retired from the Township of Denville Public Works, where he worked as a foreman.
He was a past member of 2 local car clubs: Peace River Region AACA Car Club and The Vintage Motor Car Club of America SW Florida Region (formerly Veteran Motor Car Club of America SW Florida Region). He showed his 1968 Plymouth Fury III convertible, that he bought off the showroom floor, at local parades, nursing homes, and car shows, etc. He was also a member of the Port Charlotte New Jersey Club and Moose Club.
Some of his other favorite pastimes were gardening, fishing, working to restore his 1926 Diamond T truck, collecting coins, watching old westerns, war movies and the Tampa Bay Rays. He also loved to share his more memorable life experiences, like when he was hit by a train in his '35 Pontiac when he was 20 years old, and lived to tell about it; and the close calls he encountered during WW II.
He founded the Southwest Florida Area Armed Guard Social Club in Charlotte County.
He attended Edgewater United Methodist Church in Port Charlotte.
Memories of George will live-on as his story-telling, amiable personality and his infectious laugh could never be mistaken. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome in his honor to the American Heart Association.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on March 28, 2018 at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home located at, 2405 Harbor Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL 33952 at 1:00 PM, followed by a committal service with military honors at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, located at 27200 Jones Loop Rd. Punta Gorda, FL 33982, where he will join his wife Dora.
