Gertrude Elizabeth "Betty" Elliott, 91, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014. She was born October 8, 1923 in Neodesha, Kansas to John and Gertrude Means Brothers. Betty was a school teacher and started her teaching career in a one room school house near Dillsburg, Pennsylvania and retiring from Cicero Elementary School, Cicero, N.Y. She graduated with honors from Shippensburg State Teachers College in Pennsylvania. She moved to Port Charlotte in 1986 from Brewerton, New York.
Betty was an accomplished artist and enjoyed travel. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her loving family; her husband of 71 years, Howard Paul Elliott, son James Paul Elliott (Janet), grandchildren Laura Elizabeth Monroe (Richard), Timothy Paul Elliott (Christine) and four great grandchildren, Madeleine and Gabrielle Monroe, and Jacob and Phineas Elliott. She was preceded in death by son Peter David Elliott.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be made to NAMI, the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, P.O. Box 380696, Murdock, Florida 33938.
Celebration of life services for Gertrude Elliott, will be held on Saturday, December 27 at 3:00 P.M. at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home 2405 Harbor Blvd. Port Charlotte, Florida
