Gregory V. Mortl, 83, of North Port, FL passed away January 9, 2019. He was born July 28, 1935 in Milwaukee, WI to Michael and Sophie Mortl. He moved to Venice, FL 18 years ago from Butler, WI and then to North Port in 2012. Greg worked as a commercial truck driver for 34 years before retiring. Locally, he was a parishioner of St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and volunteered with the North Port Police Dept as well as volunteering at the Heron Creek Middle School, where he worked with the 7th and 8th grade students once a week for the last 5 years. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Mortl (Nee Klein) of North Port, FL; Children, Patricia (Paul) Kluck, David Mortl and Michael Mortl; Grandchildren, Shannon, Michael, Samantha, Nicole and Alexander; Great Grandchildren, Piper, Charlie and Luna, all of Wisconsin; brother Michael (Barbara) Mortl of Wisconsin, Brother Joseph (Lucy) Mortl of Arizona, Brother in law Jere Stiglitz and the late Mary Ann (Mitzi) of Florida and many nephews, nieces and dear friends. Special thanks to the hospital staff at Venice Bayfront Hospital and Tidewell Hospice.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 21505 Augusta Avenue, Port Charlotte, FL 33952- service date and time is pending.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church School to assist with scholarships for the students.
