
Harold W. Bain, 91, died peacefully at his Punta Gorda, FL home on Saturday, January 17, 2009. He was born on April 2, 1917 to Norman & Hilda Bain in Detroit, MI. He served in the US Army for 5 years and was a graduate of Wayne State University. Mr. Bain retired in 1979 after 30 years working in the Appropriation and Accounting Services Dept of the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, MI. He was a member of the Punta Gorda Elks Lodge 2606, where he volunteered in many capacities. At the age of 63, Mr. Bain learned to play the Dulcimer. He was instrumental in organizing the Silver String Dulcimer Society in Wyandotte, MI and the Suncoast Dulcimer Society in Charlotte County. He enjoyed wintering here in Punta Gorda, FL and spent his summers in Detroit, MI.
He is survived by his sister, Geraldine Hauka of Punta Gorda, FL and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am till 11:00 am, Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. A Celebration of his life will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday at the funeral home. A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at the Roselawn Cemetery in Royal Oak, MI later in the month. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Animal Welfare League, 3519 Drance Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33980.
