Harold Carr Skinner

Harold Carr Skinner, 84, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away Tuesday, July 21 surrounded by his family at his home. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Norma (Kemper) Skinner.

Born on July 11, 1942, in Suffolk, Va. He is the son of the late Carr and Ella (Skillman) Skinner.

He was a Graduate of Frederick Military Academy in 1963. During his years at FMA, he played trumpet in a small group which performed concerts at local churches. The group was sometimes accompanied by his sister Diane on the piano. Harold was asked to play “Taps” at President John F. Kennedy’s Memorial observation at Fort Gordon. Harold honorably served his country in the United State Army during the Vietnam War. After his term in the Army, Harold worked for the NSA and retired in 1993.

Harold was a pillar in his neighborhood. He never met a stranger and his neighbors always relied on him to take care of their properties when they were away. He had a gentle spirit about him and Harold was a faithful member of Sonrise Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 110. Harold enjoyed spending time with family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Gregory Donahue and wife Carolyn of Ocean Pines, MD; his daughter Sherri Schmidt and husband Steve of Warrenton, VA; stepchildren Cheryl Lindsey and husband Michael of Englewood, FL; Sharon Marsh and husband Montgomery of Franklin, OH, Jim Lange of Asheville, NC; brother Garland and wife Myra of Raleigh, NC; 6 grandchildren, and 3 step grandchildren who have 3 great grandchildren; plus 10 nieces and nephews, 19 great-nieces and nephews, and 7 great-great-nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his previous wife Sandy (Hogarth) Skinner; his daughter Sonia Barbulis of Warrenton, VA and Jeff Donahue of Baltimore, MD.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Sonrise Baptist Church on Saturday, August 8th at 11am. The address is 11050 Willmington Blvd, Englewood, FL 34224.
