Herbert “Gene” Eggers age 83 of Port Charlotte, FL passed away on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2020. He was born July 18, 1936 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Herbert and Louise Eggers. Gene proudly served and retired from the US Army as a Master Sgt. He spent much of his time researching military, planes and automobiles. Gene loved to entertain and was a real comedian. Jo Ellen enjoyed teasing him about his standup comedy acts in Cracker Barrel on Tuesday and Thursday nights. He was also full of funny sayings like, “I’m getting ready to take a dirt bath.” Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Delores; and his brother, Bob. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife of 30 years, Jo Ellen; his children, Elona (Tom), Herb (Penny), and Sandy (John); his stepsons who he cared for as if they were his own, James (Danny), Daniel (Kim), and Jason (Emmy); 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
