Survivors include wife, Ermina, daughters Judith Toman and Carl Peterson, grandchildren Sarah, Mark, Margaret and Claire.
Herbert was born in Kearny, New Jersey. He retired to Venice from teaching special education for 25 years in Lincoln Park, NJ. He volunteered many years for Meals on Wheels, Venice Theater, Decisions to Win, Venice Public Library, and as a tutor at Laurel and Garden Elementary Schools. He was a member of the Venice Shuffleboard Club, Venice Audobon Society, Friends of the Venice Library, Venice Opera Guild, Venice Art Center and Epiphany Cathedral.
He graduated from Seton Hall University and held Masters degrees from William Peterson University.
