

As a Machine Shop Supervisor, he worked for 35 years at Pratt and Whitney Division of United Technologies, retiring in 1987 and moving to Port Charlotte from Connecticut.
Locally, he was a past member of the Punta Gorda Boat Club, the Peace River Power Squadron, the Orange State RV Club and the Port Charlotte Woodcarvers.
Herb loved to travel whether it was by sea, land or air. Fifteen cruises, sailing New England waters, down the intercostal in his trawler, RV-ing the US and Canada. He enjoyed woodcarving and leaves many carvings for all to enjoy. He enjoyed water skiing, riding a motorcycle and doing repairs and upkeep for his boats, cars and homes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jean Heim, their children, Bruce (Lynne), Brian and Bradford (Kelly Benchley) Heim; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Sarah Heim; his sister, Maureen (Ronald) Saternis, brother, Maxwell (Diane) Heim and brother-in-law, Michael Michaud.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff on A wing, Southport Square, for all the outstanding care given to him.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday August 29, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte, 2230 Hariet St, Port Charlotte, FL 33952. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation that morning at 10:00 am at the church, prior to the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation to the church in memory of Herb.
