

She was the daughter of Julia and Ignatz Nagy, born August 30, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan.
Irene grew up in Delray, MI and worked as a secretary for Ford Motor Company for 27 years at the Dearborn and Woodhaven Stamping Plants. At Woodhaven she met her late husband Joseph "Joe" Carafelli. They were married July 2nd, 1971 in Detroit, and moved to Port Charlotte, FL in 1974.
In 1999, she moved to Emerald Pointe in Punta Gorda where she played league tennis frequently, won multiple trophies, and made many friends over the years. More recently, she moved to Village on the Green in Longwood, FL to be closer to her son.
Irene was a devoted mother, talented artist and cook. Recreating her mother's Hungarian recipes were a family favorite, and she hosted many gatherings at her home in Port Charlotte. In her earlier years she enjoyed traveling, bowling, and softball.
She is survived by her loving son Joseph Jason Carafelli of Winter Park, FL; brother Frank Nagy of Trenton, MI; stepchildren JoAnn Smith of Beverly Hills, MI, Teresa Carafelli (Fred Frederick) of Sarasota, Paul Carafelli of Riverview, MI, and Gina Carafelli-Carlson (Jay Carlson) of Port Charlotte; grandchildren Marc & Julie Carafelli, and Jacob & John Carlson.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 4th at 10 a.m., with a memorial service following at 11 a.m. at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home in Port Charlotte. She will be laid to rest next to her husband and her mother at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
