Dr. James Bentley was called to his heavenly home on March 31, 2024. He was born in Brooklyn NY to his parents Arthur James Bentley and his mother Jean Caroline Bentley (NEE Payton).He was given a chemistry set for his birthday as a youngster which enabled him to make “Stink Bombs” and thus beginning his love of science. He was a true renaissance man planning, building and decorating his newest creations of mosaics. He was an extremely gifted artist and a self-taught musician playing the harmonica and acoustic guitar. He loved music especially that of one of his favorites Bob Dylan. He enjoyed boating (and owned several) and was a lifelong fisherman beginning when he caught a Bonita off of the Coney Island Pier at about 10 years old. He loved traveling and lived in several places including the Dominican where he fished to his heart’s content. He loved and supported the local culture people and struggling artists by purchasing their creations and paintings. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S Army. He followed his dream of becoming a doctor using his VA benefits to attend Buffalo University School of Medicine. He continued his career path in Pittsburgh to become a Pathologist. He had a private practice in Ohio for many years before moving to Florida in his later years to become Medical Director in several pain management clinics. He will be sorely missed by his friends. Co-workers and patients who lovingly called him their “DR B” He was predeceased by his late wife Pak Yung and his brother Steven (Rhonda) He is survived by his beloved daughter Helen (Brett) sisters Susanne Bentley Hanibal (Stephen), Jane Bentley Holloway (Bill) brothers Thomas (Janet McCormack) and Arthur (Clare). Several nieces and nephews along with great nieces and nephews including his namesake Brody James Fisher who loved him. A graveside service will be held at Calverton National Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife and parents on Tuesday April 16, 2024 at 11:30AM ST JOHN XIV 1.
