
James "Jim" A. Brown, 81, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away March 5, 2014. He was born June 11, 1932 in Westerly, RI and moved to this area in 1997 from Clinton, MD. Jim served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a Police Officer for the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Dept. serving as a Motorman for the Presidential Motorcade under the tenure of President Eisenhower through President Carter. He was active in the Washington DC community as the former Governor of the Moose Lodge #1, a member of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion and VFW and as a member of the Masonic Lodge. Locally, he was a member of the Blue Knights. As a motorcycle enthusiast, Jim's love for riding continued throughout his retirement and he enjoyed his friendships with fellow riders.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Brown of Punta Gorda, FL; daughter, Jill (Gator) Brown of Cape Coral, FL; step children, Larry Kincheloe and Raymond Kincheloe both of Cape Coral, Scott Mahoney and Megan Mahoney both of Punta Gorda, FL; brother, P.G Underwood of Virginia; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday March 8, 2014 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. Burial will follow at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in memory of Jim be made to Tidewell Hospice at tidewell.org.
