
James R. Untied, 85, of Punta Gorda, FL died November 7, 2007. He was born August 15, 1922 in Dresden, Ohio. He served in the US Army Air Force during WWII. James attended the University of Detroit and worked in the aviation industry during that time. He went on to become an Aircraft Engineer, and for over 30 years, worked on the development and testing of jet engines for such companies as Pratt Whitney and Avco Lycoming. After retiring, James was elected First Selectman of Oxford, CT, serving three terms. He was an active volunteer for the Oxford Fire Dept. He and his wife moved to Punta Gorda from Oxford in 1993. They are active members of the San Antonio Catholic Church, where they are pastoral ministers. James is a Past Grand Knight, 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus and was active in Emmaus.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Untied of Punta Gorda, FL; sons, Anthony Emily Untied of Chesapeake, VA; David Karen Untied of Glendale, AZ; Nicholas Karen Untied of Ridgefield, CT and Martin Lorena Untied of St Pete, FL; daughter, Jeanne Jeffrey Fletcher of Ridley Park, PA; 21 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
The Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm till 4:00 pm, Sunday, November 11, 2007 at the Kays-Ponger Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Monday, November 12, 2007 at the San Antonio Catholic Church, 24445 Rampart Blvd, Pt Charlotte, FL. Burial with Military Honors to follow at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 1144 Veronica St., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
