Ricki Jan (Moore) York, 80, of Port Charlotte, Florida, peacefully completed her earthly journey on March 17, 2026, at Tidewell Hospice House. She was born August 28, 1945, in Connersville, Indiana, to Robert Lee Moore and Lillian Jean (Coon) Moore Risch.
Jan graduated from Connersville High School in 1963, where she was a proud Spartinette and served as editor of the 1963 Cohiscan yearbook. She went on to attend Ball State University from 1963 to 1966, where she became editor-in-chief of the Ball State Daily News. It was there, in September 1963, that she met the love of her life, Bruce Edward York. They were married on August 2, 1964, in Connersville, and shared 61 devoted years of marriage, marked by deep faith and enduring love.
On May 2, 1965, Jan and Bruce were baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The following year, in September 1966, their marriage was sealed for eternity in the Los Angeles California Temple, a sacred ordinance in their faith. This union became the foundation of a loving family. On November 17, 1966, they welcomed their first child, Carla Cechele (Lonnie Houser), born into their eternal family covenant. They were later blessed with five more children: Andrew York (Laura Byer), Kendra Coral (Edgard Coral), Aaron York (Marie Kenison), Kirstyn York Schroeder (Lance Schroeder), and Eric York (Benay Noll). From their six children, Jan—an only child herself—was blessed with 27 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.
Following Bruce’s graduation, the couple moved to Riverside, California. In 1977, they returned to the Midwest with their six children, first settling in Harrison, Ohio, and later in Warsaw, Indiana. While in Warsaw, Jan returned to Ball State University, where she earned dual degrees in journalism and public relations. She completed her student teaching at Warsaw Community High School and was later hired there to teach English and journalism and serve as advisor for the school newspaper. She continued her teaching career at Plainfield High School in Indiana and Chandler High School in Arizona, also serving as the yearbook advisor at both schools.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jan served faithfully in many church service roles throughout her life, including serving as a Primary (children’s organization) teacher and president, Relief Society (women’s organization) president, and seminary (daily scripture study program) teacher. Her faith was a guiding force in her life and a source of strength to all who knew her.
Jan had a deep love for genealogy and family history. She authored and published several family history books, including a biography of her mother and a record honoring the veterans of Fentress County, Tennessee.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Jean Coon and Robert Lee Moore, her son, Andrew David York; grandchildren Michael Dean Houser and Hailee Marie York; great-grandson Jackson Alexander Schiffman; and stepfather, Leo Paul Risch.
Jan’s life and legacy will be lovingly remembered and celebrated on Saturday, March 21, at 11am the Port Charlotte Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those whose lives she touched.
