

In loving memory of JOAN Perkins MILLIGAN
October 25, 1931 â€" October 4, 2015
Joan Perkins Milligan, 83, passed away on October 4, 2015, in Punta Gorda, Florida. She was the wife of John David Milligan Jr. her beloved husband; loving mother of David Milligan, Susan Walker, Julie Jones and Nancy Bradley and their spouses; and grandmother of nine cherished grandchildren. Joan was born in 1931 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Clarice Gorham Perkins & Roy Perkins.
She met John in high school, and they were married in Washington, Pennsylvania on September 6, 1950. Joan graduated from the Medical College of Virginia with a Bachler of Science in Nursing. She was employed as director of the L.P.N. School, Martinsville Virginia; HRS Health Department in Sanford Florida as Nursing Program Specialist in Family Planning, and at the Family Foot Center in Crossville, Tennessee. She also worked in various other nursing capacities including dermatology and hospital care.
Joan and John retired and moved to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee to enjoy the cool breezes and majestic hills of the Cumberland Plateau. In ¬¬¬May, 2013 they moved to Punta Gorda, Florida and became residents of the Emerald Lake Community.
Joan was very active in the First Presbyterian Church, where she participated in the Ladies Guild and Bible study. Joan loved collecting angels. Her other interests included traveling, online shopping and going to the movies. She loved and took great pride in her four children and nine grandchildren who brought much joy to her life. Despite physical infirmities later in life, Joan was determined to remain an active part in their lives. She will be cherished and greatly missed in the hearts of all who loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, John Milligan; four children and their spouses: David Milligan and Sandra Raak Milligan of Port Charlotte, Florida; Susan and John Walker, of Richmond, Virginia; Julie and David Jones of Fernandina Beach, Florida; and Nancy and Bedford Bradley of Atlanta, Georgia; and nine grandchildren. Her parents Clarice Regenstein & Roy Perkins preceded Joan in death.
Visitation Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a Celebration of life service for Joan to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Punta Gorda 25250 Airport Road. Punta Gorda, Florida
