

John Alvin Hawkins, 65, of Venice, Fl., passed away January 6, 2016. He was born September 6, 1951 in Zion, Illinois to Alvin and Louise Hawkins. John’s birth was at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center Hospital while his father was called back into active service during the Korean War. During John’s school years, he was an accomplished baseball player within the Little League arena in Valley Station, Kentucky.
John was a proud Vietnam War veteran and served with the Navy aboard a refueling ship off the coast of South and North Vietnam. After his discharge from active duty he settled in Valley Station, Kentucky, however, he eventually settled with his family in the North Port, Florida, area.
Anyone who met John instantly knew that he was a funny loving person to be around. He was devoted to his family and friends. His greatest pleasure was spending special time with his son and mother. He was an avid dart and pool player and was a member of several leagues in the area.
He is survived by a son, Jonathan Christopher Earl Hawkins of Port Charlotte, former wife Carolyn June Hawkins, two sisters, June Hope-Brown of Sarasota and Joanna Wagle of North Port, and a brother, James Hawkins of Venice. He was also a proud uncle to Laura, Michael, Craig, Tyler & Jacob and a great-uncle to Christian and Harper Rene.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday February 12, 2016 at the Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL.
