"Mike" was born May 24, 1931 in Berlin, Germany, the son of John and Marietta Khittel Kioschos. He received his medical training at the University of Heidelberg from 1954 to 1959 and came to the United States to pursue a fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals in 1962. He remained there, in the Cardiology Department, where he was the supervisor of the Catheterization Laboratory from 1967 until his retirement in 1989. He wrote the cardiac catheterization manual that remained in use there for many years. His honors were too many to list but he always said that he enjoyed teaching above all. He met his wife Anne there, as well, and married her twenty-eight years ago. They moved to Punta Gorda in 1989. Mike was a great all-around sportsman with a deep love for fishing in particular. He was always on the go, in spite of his physical limitations and refused to be slowed or cowed by them by them. He was kind and gentle and will be missed terribly by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Anne; his children, Dr. John Michael Kioschos of Nashville, TN; Dr. Hans Christopher Kioschos of Gillette, WY; Amy Lynne Kioschos of Fort Myers, FL; Frances Ben Hammond of Alameda, CA; his grandchildren, Page, Phoebe, Brooks, Gretchen, C.J., Ezra, and Jonah; and his brothers Sven Marie-Claude of Moliets, France, and Peter Paul Marre of Cologne, Germany. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John E. Kioschos.
A memorial service is pending. Memorial contributions, in memory of Mike, may be made to the Tidewell Hospice House, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL, 34238. The family wishes to acknowledge the extraordinary care and kindness shown to Mike and his family by the staff at Tidewell.
