
John L. Truby, 78, of Punta Gorda, FL died March 2, 2012. He was born November 28, 1933 in New Kensington, PA to George and Bertha Truby. He was a 1959 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1956 and was discharged as a First Lieutenant after service in Korea. John began his career in 1959 working in management for various subsidiary railroads of the US Steel Corp. From 1964 till 1970, he worked as an Administration Manager at Westvaco Corp in Luke, MD and then became the Vice President of Finance for the Lehigh Portland Cement Co. in Allentown PA till starting his own company in 1974. John was President and Owner of Truby Enterprises, a coal sales company based in Zanesville, OH until his retirement. In 1977, he founded the Irish Ridge Coal Company, which was engaged in coal stripping in Muskingum County, OH until 1980 when reclamation work was complete. In 1997 he moved to Punta Gorda, FL and locally was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Punta Gorda, the PGI Civic Assoc. and the Punta Gorda Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Truby of Punta Gorda, FL; daughters, Leslie (Michael) Bartell of Normal, IL; Jacque White of Indianapolis, IN and Barbara (Todd) Pierce of Hilton Head, SC; grandchildren, Allison, Michael, Emily and Sydney; great grandchildren, Autumn and Maya; brothers, Rev William (Nancy Lee) Truby of Oostburg, WI and George (Edith) Truby of Leechsburg, PA
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday March 14, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church of Punta Gorda, 25250 Airport Road, Punta Gorda.
