Lloyd J. Kendall, known to everybody as Jack, passed away on August 13, 2026, in Port Charlotte, Florida, at the age of 83.
Born on June 25, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Lloyd and Anna Gleason Kendall. Jack lived a life marked by service, loyalty, hard work, and a deep devotion to the people he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia “Patsy” Kendall McCauley.
After graduating from Sterling High School, Jack proudly served his country in the United States Army as a sergeant during the Vietnam War from 1962 to 1965. His military service reflected the strength, discipline, and sense of duty that would remain with him throughout his life. After his time in the Army, he continued to serve others in a variety of roles, including with the Magnolia Police Force. He later worked as a warehouse manager for American Honda and also spent many years in security, eventually becoming a supervisor for General Development Corporation Utilities during the period when Port Charlotte and North Port were being developed. In every position he held, Jack was known for his reliability, leadership, and strong work ethic.
Beyond his career, Jack gave generously of his time and energy to the communities he loved. He was a devoted football, basketball, and baseball coach in both New Jersey and Florida, and he found great joy in mentoring young athletes. He was especially active with the Charlotte Warriors football and cheer organization, where he served in many roles, including coach, president, and conference representative. His involvement left a lasting impact on the organization and on the many families who came to know him through youth sports. He made friends wherever he went, and his presence was often remembered for his humor, honesty, and unmistakable personality. He was a jokester who could always bring a smile to those around him, and he was known for “telling it like it was”.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Alexander Kendall. He also leaves behind his children, John (Danielle) Kendall, Janet (Jeffrey) McCoy and Stepson James (Shelby) Herd. His eight grandchildren, Matthew, Alexander, Zachary, Brian, Kyndal, Hailey, JadeLynn and McKinsey. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, both academically and athletically, and he treasured them deeply. He is also survived by his brothers William (Maryann) Kendall, James (Jacqueline) Kendall and Richard Kendall. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends who will remember him with love and admiration.
Jack loved deeply and protected fiercely. He was a man of strong convictions, a generous heart, and a steadfast spirit. Those who knew him will remember his loyalty, his sense of humor, and the way he made others feel seen and valued. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the teams he coached, the colleagues he worked beside, and the many lives he touched along the way.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 30th at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home located at 2405 Harbor Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL, 33952 from 10am to 2pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your local animal rescue or St. Judes is suggested to honor Jack.
