Mary Hannah Riggs, 83, of Port Charlotte, Florida was peacefully united with her Heavenly Father on February 1, 2017 at 3:52 am. Hannah was born on October 24, 1933 in Jacksboro, Tennessee to the late Brown and Bertha Boshears. Hannah was a beautiful Christian woman. She lovingly cared for her husband, children and extended family, taught Sunday School , played the piano, spoke at Ladies Retreats and served in various areas of ministry. Her faith in Jesus was evident throughout her life and ultimately gave her perfect rest.
Hannah was an educator at heart. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from East Tennessee State College on August 3, 1957 majoring in Library Science. In Tampa, she taught English at Oak Grove Jr. High and Jefferson High School. When King High School (also in Tampa) opened, her efforts to establish the library were invaluable.
Hannah is survived by the Love of her Life and husband of 63 years, David Riggs,Sr., sisters Opal Phillips and Lillie Kidwell, brothers Hugh Boshears, Morton Boshears and Cal Boshears, son,David Riggs,Jr. and daughter-in-law Konny Riggs, daughter Libby Appelo and son-in-law,David Appelo,Sr., grandchildren, David (Johanna) Riggs III, Davina (Scott) Adelhardt, Adam, Andrew, Alex, Austin, Olivia Riggs, Hannah, David Jr., and Jonathan Appelo; great grandchildren, Tyler and Katarina Adelhardt, Zoe, David IV, Elizabeth, Charis, Rebekah, Victoria, Jonathan, Clara, Bruno, Katy, Vivienne Riggs; great great grandchild, Chase Adelhardt. She is preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and her beloved daughter Joy Riggs.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday February 6, 2017 at the Berean Baptist Church, 17377 Godwin Ave., Port Charlotte, Florida 33948. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am till the service begins. Interment to follow at Sarasota National Cemetery. Flowers are welcome, but donations appreciated to the Berean Baptist Church in memory of Mary for their Missions Fund.
