
Matthias "Matt" DiMattia 78, originally of Trenton, NJ, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on October 10, 2017. Son of the late Joseph and Mary DiMattia, he is predeceased by sisters, Mary Smith and Jean Bentz. He is survived by wife Monica; sisters, Francine (Frank) Chiorello, Rita Palermo, Elvira (Kenneth) Naylor; children Deborah DiMattia, Annette (Alan) Weishuhn, Joseph DiMattia, and Anthony (Kimberly) DiMattia; granddaughters Casey, Paige, Grace, and Isabelle; and many beloved family and friends.
Matt lived for many years in the Trenton, NJ area where he owned and operated a general contracting business, as well as teaching general building construction at Mercer County Vocational and Technical Schools. Matt was retired, and resided in Port Charlotte, FL since 2007 with his wife Monica and many great friends. Matt will be remembered for his sense of humor, outgoing personality, and love of family and friends. He also loved to cook, and he was brought joy, when others enjoyed his favorite dishes or laughed along with him at one of his jokes.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda, Florida. Matt was a US Air Force Veteran and will be interred at 2:00 P.M. at Sarasota National Cemetery 9810 State Road 72, with military Honors following the mass of Christian burial.
The family would like to thank Tidewell Hospice and all the staff of Fawcett Memorial Hospital for their competent and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his memory.
