

She was born April 20, 1925, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was a sister to Anton Grasch of Milwaukee, WI.
Maryan was raised in Milwaukee, moved to Bourg, LA, with her husband until 1957, after which they moved to Englewood, FL, and acquired a home with cottages which became Maryan Court. Later she helped her husband fulfill his lifelong dream of building and owning the Cajun Club, one of Englewood's pioneer restaurants. She belonged to the Altar Society of St. Raphael's Church, had hobbies of knitting, quilting, painting, reading, playing cards and in earlier days was an avid fisherwoman.
Maryan's husband of 63 years, Francis Matherne, died on August 4, 2008. She is survived by one son and four daughters, Nancy(Dale) Galvin, Ginny (Norman) Spurley, Jerry Matherne and Mary Matherne, all of Englewood, and Renee (Jon) Kastor of Stockbridge, GA.
She was blessed to be loved by 10 grandchildren and their families, Gina (Rick) Haines, David (Rachel) Galvin, Deena (Mike) Van't Hul, Alicia (Scott) Morrison, Matthew Matherne, Ryan (Allison) Birdsey, Abby Matherne, Amy Benefield, Lee Kastor and Derek Kastor and by 16 great-grandchildren, Darren and Francis Haines, Garrett and Wade Galvin, Logan, Mitchell, Priscilla and Caleb Van't Hul, Gaines, Keaton and Avery Morrison, Asher and Maci Birdsey, Savannah Matherne, Luke Stephens and Matalie Benefield.
Maryan was a woman of integrity and honor. Her family takes comfort in knowing her remarkable legacy will be passed on for generations to come.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Raphael's Church, Englewood.
