Neil M Rountree, 76, native and lifelong resident of Punta Gorda, FL passed away January 26, 2013. Neil was born on Allen Street in Punta Gorda to Elvin and Marion Moody Rountree on December 20, 1936. He graduated from Charlotte High and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Upon returning to Punta Gorda, Neil married Mary Holladay on October 20th, 1960. They built a house one block from his place of birth and that remained "home" for over 40 years.
Neil worked for the family Coca Cola Business before going to work at Budweiser for 15 years. At that time, Neil started Bay Culvert Supply with his lifelong friend Calvin Flowers, before becoming sole proprietor. Neil has worked as a driver for Parts Plus for the last 20 years until his illness.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Rountree; his children, Curtis Rountree and Pamela Rountree, and will always remain "Granddaddy-O" to Whitney Rountree and Darcy Rountree. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm till 2:00 pm, Friday February 2, 2013 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda, FL. The Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with the Rev Bob Carlson officiating.
