

Nerva Bell Roberts, age 78, passed away at home in the Bronx, New York, on Thursday, February 9, 2023. She was the first daughter, born to Albert and Agnes Richardson, on September 23, 1944 in the district of May Pen, Parish of Clarendon, in Jamaica West Indies.
Nerva lived in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica, from birth to 1969. She later migrated to the Bahamas, then to Canada and finally to the United States.
She completed her education at May Pen Secondary School in Jamaica West Indies. She worked for many years until her retirement as a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A) in Punta Gorda, Florida.
On August 21, 1976, she married William Roberts in the Bronx, New York. Nerva was an extremely devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a proud woman, a perfectionist in her surroundings, who enjoyed traveling, shopping, listening to music and dancing to the beat of her favorite soul and reggae rhythms while sashaying across the room.
Nerva was preceded in death by her husband, William, of 35 years; her sisters, Mary-Ann, Brenda, Mary and her brothers, Kenneth and Winston.
She is survived by her children; sons, Delroy, well-known as “Donovan” aka “Popeye”, Wayne, Rohan and Howard, her only daughter, Sandra, who is extremely instrumental in ensuring that Nerva was well taken care of, and step-children, Melissa, Keyon, Brandon, Christopher, Jordan, Avery, Jakhi, Genisis, Jaden, Solanja, Rehanna and Alayna; and three great grandchildren, two sisters, Idalee “ affectionately known as Pinky” and Sonia; three brothers, Rupert, Hansel and Percival; daughter-in-laws, Rose and Jeanine, brother-in-laws, Jim; sister-in-laws, Pansy, AnnMarie, Una and Olive; numerous beloved nieces and nephews and so many other relatives—too many to mention.
A visitation for Nerva will be held Friday, March 3, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 2405 Harbor Blvd, Port Charlotte, Florida 33952. A service will occur Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Port Charlotte New Testament of God, 21011 Midway Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL 33952. A committal service will occur Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 1380 Forrest Nelson, Port Charlotte, FL 33948.
