Richard Anthony Carey, 67, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012 in Port Charlotte. He was born August 18, 1944 in South Milwaukee, WI, to George Stanley and Dorothy (Piquette) Carey. His family moved to Charlotte County in 1958, when he was 14. As a young man, he served as a volunteer firefighter for the S. Punta Gorda Fire Department and was involved in the Civil Air Patrol. He also served in the National Guard from 1965 until 1971, when he was honorably discharged. His lifelong occupation was in manufacturing of concrete building products. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was also an avid car enthusiast, animal lover, and supporter of the Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County. His generous heart and contagious smile were loved, and will be missed by many.
Richard is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia M. Carey; his five children: Richard (Christine) Carey, Leah (Jim) Lamb, Jared (Candice) Carey, Adam (Andreia) Carey, Nathan (Nadine) Carey; and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen McCloud and twelve nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 11:45 am on Monday, March 19, 2012 with the funeral service at 12 noon, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1303 Forrest Nelson Blvd., Port Charlotte. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.
