

Rick was born on January 9, 1947 to John and Elizabeth (Bette) Ward in Ft. Atkinson, WI. He attended UW-Madison where he earned his undergraduate, MBA and JD degrees. He practiced law in Madison for 30 years. He married Shelley Malofsky on September 6, 1981. They had three daughters, Gillian, Elizabeth and Allison Jon, who he loved with all of his heart and knew how much they loved him.
Rick was a proud libertarian who believed in personal freedom and personal choice in all regards, who never believed in moderation if excess was possible, and who believed that a good martini should be shaken and not stirred. Rick enjoyed filling his retirement with reading, downloading music, and breaking his computer, all with his beloved dogs by his side.
Rick is survived by Shelley, his daughters and their partners, who he thought of as his sons, his mother Bette, sisters Christi Ward and Kiki Ward, sisters-in law Esther Letven and Harriet Russo, brother-in law Marv Letven, nieces and nephews and his close friend of nearly 50 years, Bob Elias. Rick was preceded in death by his father John, brother Johnny and sister Kari.
Rick was cremated and In keeping with his wishes he will be buried at the family cemetery, with some of his cremains to be scattered in Lemon Bay, Florida and some to be rocketed into space. Stardust to stardust, Rick.
