
Robert C. Brooks, 80, died on March 31, 2010 surrounded by his wife, three children and grand children. He was born April 27, 1929 in Rochester, NY. He resided in Syracuse, NY for over 50 years and in Port Charlotte, FL for 23 years. He worked as an accountant for the Burroughs Corp. Todd Div. in Rochester and was a 20 yr retiree as comptroller for the City of Syracuse Urban Renewal Agency. He was a graduate of the University of Penn Wharton School and received his master's degree from Syracuse Univ. in Business Admin.
He was co-founder and first Deputy Grand Knight of the St. Joseph's Council of the Knights of Columbus #5398 in Eastwood, NY. He was also a member of Council #5399 in Port Charlotte as their Faithful Controller and 4th Degree member of St. Jude's Assembly #1750.
Robert sang with the Village Singers and the American Legion Chorus in Syracuse. He was a choir member for 50 years at various churches including St. Charles Borromeo in Port Charlotte where he was a member of the Kingdom Seekers Prayer Group, played the marimba and performed as a singer and dancer in over 20 Broadway plays in Port Charlotte.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, and three children: Sheila Butler Michael, Mitchell Brooks and Steven Brooks Valesha as well as 8 grand children, four great grand children, many nieces and nephews as well as five sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
He served his country in the Army in Korea and received an honorable discharge as a First Lieutenant.
A funeral mass will be offered at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church at 21505 Augusta Avenue, PC at 2 PM on Tuesday, April 6. A reception will follow at the home of his son Mitch, 258 Bangsberg Road off of Edgewater Dr. after the service. No visiting hours will be held except at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory many be made to the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund thru St. Charles or to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Ave, Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136. Interment will be at Assumption Cemetery in Syracuse.
