Robert C. "Bob" Naylor Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024, in Port Charlotte, FL, just days shy of his 80th birthday. Born on September 9, 1944, in New York, Bob's life was a testament to service, dedication, and the joy of adventure.
Bob's journey began as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, where he learned the values of courage and commitment that would define his life. After his military service, he dedicated over 35 years to the city of Punta Gorda, Florida, where he began as a volunteer firefighter. His passion for helping others led him to become a full-time firefighter, then fire marshal, and ultimately the respected fire chief. Bob's devotion to his community was further exemplified through his long-standing involvement with the Punta Gorda Kiwanis Club, where he served as both Treasurer and President, and his leadership in orchestrating the Punta Gorda fireworks for many years.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of over 10 years, Christine Naylor, and his children, Tracy (Cindy) Naylor, Amy (Kim) Runkle, and Lois Naylor. He was a proud grandfather to Casey, Mikal, Danielle, Ryan, and Becky, and a doting great-grandfather to Bradleigh, Kyal, and Malachi. He also leaves behind his stepdaughter, Lori, and his siblings, Betty Ann, Nettie, Donald, Franny, Dale, Roberta, and Marie. Bob was preceded in death by his siblings, Dora, Andy, Clifton, Johnny, and his stepdaughter, Debbie.
Bob's interests were as expansive as his heart. An avid woodworker, he crafted many beautiful pieces that will serve as lasting memories of his talent and patience. His love for the open road was evident in his passion for riding his Harley, and he was a familiar face at Sturgis Bike Week for many years. He could often be heard listening to On the road again by Willie Nelson as his adventurous spirit took him to all 50 states, and in his younger years, he could be found racing cars at the Charlotte Speedway, where his courage and competitive nature shone brightly.
Known as a pillar of his community, Bob was loved by all who knew him. His kindness was as legendary as his adventures; he was the kind of man who would, quite literally, give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. His adventurous, kind, and courageous spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
Bob's life was a journey of service, love, and adventure. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, the many lives he touched, and the community he so fervently served. As we say goodbye to Robert C. "Bob" Naylor Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived and honor the memories he leaves behind. His was a life that truly made a difference, and his memory will be cherished forever.
Bob's visitation will be held at Kays Ponger and Uselton Funeral home, 635 E. Marion Ave. Punta Gorda, FL on Saturday, Sept 14 from 10:30 am until the service time that begins at 1:00 pm.
His Fireman last ride will take place on Wed. Sept 18 at 10:00 am, going from the fire house to his final resting place at Royal Palm cemetery.
