Rudolf Friedrich Voigt

Rudolf F. Voigt, age 85 of Punta Gorda, FL passed away December 18, 2019. He was born in Berlin, Germany on October 23, 1934 to Fritz and Anni Voigt. Rudolf attended Elementary School in Berlin, Germany and High School from 1946-1952. He later attended Austin Peay State University in 1978. Rudolf came to the US in 1953 and was drafted. Military active service was his life for 33 years. Rudolf had 2 tours in Vietnam and achieved the highest rank as a noncommissioned officer as a Command Sergeant Major in the Army, Corp of Engineers. He was a member of the Elks and Legion of Foreign Wars for half of his life. Rudolf loved to go golfing and boating. He was a proud captain of his vessel. Rudolf is survived by his wife, Ria Voigt; daughter, Sylvia (Richard) Weaver; grandchildren, Christopher Castro, Nickolas Castro, Patrick Weaver, Kayleigh Voigt, Chelsea Hodge, and Maggie Fike; great grandchildren, Myla Castro, Rowan Castro, Sophia Castro, Addie Grey and Penelope Watson; sisters, Hilli Crain and Gerda Rayne. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard (Sheila); daughter, Susanne (David); grandson, Richard Voigt; and sister, Edith Williams. A Funeral Service for Rudolf will be on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 10 am at Lutheran Church of the Cross; 2300 Luther Rd, Port Charlotte, FL 33983. Interment will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL.
