

Ruth L. Sherman, born on March 31 in Dickson City, Pennsylvania, to the late Oscar Thomas and Agnes Mary Edwards, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, in Port Charlotte, Florida. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, John C. Sherman.
Ruth is lovingly remembered by her three children: John S. (Leslie) Sherman, Gary E. (Lynn) Sherman, and Bill (Nicole) Sherman; her cherished grandchildren: John E., Dayna M., Derck M., Gary M., Stephanie A., Caitlan J., and Kendall T.; Eight great-grandchildren, her sister Lois Williamson of Florence, South Carolina, 3 Nieces, 1 Nephew, 3 Grand Nephews and 2 Grand Nieces.
Ruth lived a life defined by Love, passion, perseverance, dedication, and service to her family and community in Lake Hopatcong, NJ. . She was the proud founder of the Girls Softball Program in Jefferson Township and was a devoted supporter of the Jefferson Twp. Recreation programs together with her husband, both who were honored as the Greatest fans of the Jefferson Township H.S. Wrestling Teams. Ruth also served as a Substitute School Teacher at Jefferson Township High School and held the position of Past President of the Jefferson Twp. Rescue Squad. Ruth’s continued commitment to veterans services, included her membership to the American Legion Post 245 Auxiliary in Lake Hopatcong and the Charlotte County Florida Marine Corp Toys for Tots Program. Her professional accomplishments included a successful career as a Draftmans at Picatinny Arsenal, a Real Estate Broker for Schwartz Realty, and as National Sales Manager for the John Dusenbery Company .
Beyond her professional and community contributions, Ruth found joy in many personal pursuits. She had a love for playing the organ, her favorite flowers were orchids, enjoyed golfing and was a 300 bowler earning numerous trophies over the years. Ruth also treasured her time boating on Lake Hopatcong with her husband where together, they raised their three sons.
Ruth and John retired to Florida and were members of the Riverwood Golf and Country Club in Port Charlotte, Florida. Her faith in God was central to her life, and she continued worshipping her life as a Christian, as a member of the Gulf Cove United Methodist Church in Port Charlotte, FL.
A committal service will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 70, Sarasota, FL 34241. The service will be officiated by Rev. Mike Weaver of Gulf
Cove United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Charlotte County Marine Corp Toys For Tots Program or Tidewell Hospice in gratitude for their compassionate care during Ruth’s final days. Her memory will forever bring comfort to those who knew her and serve as an enduring reminder of a Long life well-lived and Well done.
