Selwyn E. Kerrigan

Selwyn E. Kerrigan, age 87 of Pt. Charlotte, Fl passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009. He was born June 22, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA to Nathan and Mary Kerrigan. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and spent 29 years in the service retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. A trip to Washington D.C. to visit the W.W. II Memorial was most moving and also his last trip.

He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Rotonda West and a member of EARS Radio Club in Englewood. He enjoyed cribbage, crossword puzzles, ham radio, camping and traveling the United States.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years Mary, children Matt Marie of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Eileen Jim Dunlop of Westport, MA, Mark Rita of Ward, AK and Maryanne Kerrigan of Boston, MA., 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, June 22, 2009 at 10AM at St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church in Grove City. Graveside services with full military honors will follow at 1:30PM at Sarasota National Cemetery. Family request that donations may be made to Southwest Florida Honor Flight, P.O. Box 49488, Pt. Charlotte, FL 33949. Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel in charge of arrangements.
