Shawn Scott Cameron, age 53, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away on May 8, 2025. Born on July 25, 1971, in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Shawn lived a life defined by resilience, strength, and unwavering love for his family.
A proud graduate of Booker High School and Venice High School, Class of 1990, Shawn went on to work as a glacier before retiring. His work ethic and determination were only matched by his inner strength—having survived severe burns, Shawn was given a second chance at life, one that he filled with purpose, laughter, and love. He gifted his family 25 more years of memories, smiles, and moments that will be cherished forever.
Shawn was the beloved son of the late Micheal Bruce Cameron Sr. and Beverly Sue Hardy, who survives him. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Suzanne Elizabeth Lucille Ottman, and a proud father-in-law to Joseph Ottman. His heart belonged to his grandchildren—Jayden Marie Cameron (12), Mason Shawn Michael Paquin (11), and Joseph Michael Ottman Jr. (2)—who brought him endless joy and pride.
He is also survived by his siblings: Arlen G. Cameron, William R. Cameron, Michael B. Cameron Jr., Nancy J. Cameron, Tonya L. Chandler, Steven M. Cameron, and Michael A. Cameron, and numerous nieces and nephews. Each of them held a special place in his heart.
Shawn was the kind of man who could carry the weight of the world on his shoulders and still greet you with a smile. He lit up every room he walked into with his humor and kindness, always putting others’ happiness before his own. His heart was truly made of gold.
A true country boy at heart, Shawn found joy in the simple things: fishing, camping, mudding, and sitting back with a cup of coffee or sweet tea, a Marlboro in hand, wearing his cowboy boots and hat. His lifted truck was his pride, but nothing compared to the pride he felt for his daughter and grandchildren. He had a deep love for music—especially Metallica—and once played guitar himself, often filling the air with the sound of his passion.
Shawn Scott Cameron was a fighter, a survivor, and a source of strength for those who knew him. He will be remembered for his laughter, his courage, and the immeasurable love he gave to his family.
His legacy will live on through the stories told, the music played, and the lives he touched so deeply.
