
Thomas G. Alex, 48, of North Port, FL died December 13, 2008. He was born April 21, 1960 in Boston, Mass and moved to this area in 1990 from there. He was a graduate of South Boston High School, a "Southie", where he was very active with sports such as hockey, football and boxing. He had even been a contender for the Golden Glove. Mr. Alex served in the Army National Guard for 20 years. He was employed with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office as a Corrections Deputy First Class at the Charlotte County Jail. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree and attended San Pedro Catholic Church. He volunteered as an Explorer Advisor. Mr. Alex was a passionate New England Patriots fan and a firearms enthusiast and collector.
He is survived by his wife, Bettina Korte-Alex of North Port, FL; children, Thomas Jennifer Alex of Virginia Beach, VA; Bryan Alex of North Port, FL and Keri Alex of North Carolina; siblings, Bob Rona Alex of South Easton, MA and Mary Ann Alex of Quincy, MA; Father and Mother In-laws, Bud and Wanda Korte; Brother and Sister In-laws, Jason & Hope Korte, Angel Ron Rakes, Greg Melissa Orf, Sandy Cliff Sachs, Helen White, Jean Pete Trapani, Denise Christian Romero; nieces and nephews, Robert, Melissa, Xander, Olivia, Sean Blake, Noah and Breanna; many cousins and friends. He was pre deceased by his parents, James and Lottie Alex.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday December 17, 2008 at the San Pedro Catholic Church, 14380 Tamiami Trail, North Port, FL 34287. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office in support of the "Run & Gun Challenge" 7474 Utilities Road, Punta Gorda, FL 33982
