William E. Mercer, 64 of Englewood, FL, died Thursday December 7, 2006, at his residence. Mr. Mercer was born July 1, 1942 in Tarpon Springs, FL to Evander W. and loisCatoe Mercer. Mr. Mercer had been a resident of Englewood for 2 years coming from Germany. He retired from the US Army after 21 years of service witht he rank of sergeant 1st Class serving Vietnam and a marine mechanic at Palm Island. He was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church in Englewood.
Survivors include his children, Kelli L. Mercer, Robert L. Mercer, Christina L Scott Lapinski all of Englewood and Theresa L Lewis Campbell of North Port; his brothers, Wayne and Jack Ernst, Vern Mercer and Sam Catoe; his sisters, Dolores Catoe and Julie Catoe; his 4 grandchildren Joshua L. Campbell, Katie E. Campbell, Aaron Lapinski and Gillian M. Lapensi. Mr. Mercer was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia T. Mercer.
Visitation will be held on Saturday December 9, 2006 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm with a funeral service at 1:00 pm at Kays-Ponger Funeral Home Punta Gorda Chapel, 635 E. Marion Ave. Burial will follow at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens.
