William H. Bill Troup, 89, of Englewood, Florida died November 23, 2006. He was born February 7, 1917 in Kankakee, Illinois, the son of Harold and Theresa Troup, he was a descendent of one of the oldest families in Kankakee.
He graduated from Kankakee High School in 1935 and from Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama in 1939, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta social Fraternity and several honor fraternities including Spades and ODK, and was listed in Whos Who among students in American Universities and Colleges in 1939. He then worked for Eastern Airlines in Louisville, Kentucky until he was drafted into the Army Air Corps in June 1941.
He was married on May 14, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Mary Beth Oldham for 52 years, she preceded him in death in 1993. He loved to travel, which he did extensively in Europe and the West Indies and enjoyed reading, hunting and fishing. He also loved cooking, planning and giving dinner parties up until the time of his death.
He served in the Army Air Corp for 4 1/2 years in W.W.II he was discharged as a Major, having risen from a Private to a Major in this time. He was a third generation owner of a lumber business H. H. Troup & Company in Kankakee.
He retired to the Englewood area in 1977. He was a member of St. Davids Episcopal Church of Englewood, serving a total of seven years on the vestry, one year as Junior Warden and five years as Senior Warden, as well as being the Director of Ushers for many years.
He is survived by his sons, Michael of Saipan and Daniel of Winchester, Virginia; his daughter Christie Keller of Bourbonnais, Illinois; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Beth and his sister Katherine E. White.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at St. Davids Episcopal Church. Memorials may be made to the Church at 401 S. Broadway, Englewood, Florida 34223. Lemon Bay Funeral Home Englewood Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
