Nov. 12, 1946 – Sept. 26, 2015
With heavy hearts we announce Brian’s passing at Burnaby Hospital. Brian lived his whole life in the Lower Mainland, working mostly in recreation and educational positions. His last 25 years were at BCIT where he earned both the 2014 “Unsung Hero” award and a new one in his honour: the “Brian Thom Advancing Teaching Excellence Award”. Brian will be fondly remembered for his optimism, huge heart, mischievous grin, intellect, energy, creativity, and zest for life. He deeply loved his family, nature, canoeing, building and creating with log, stone, leather and glass, often scavenging supplies – the ultimate recycler. He was awesome! Predeceased by his parents Edwin and Helen, Brian is survived by his wife Trish, sons Jeremy (Hilary), Michael (Lauren), and Kevin, daughter Maya, granddaughter Poppy, brother Jim, and numerous relatives. A celebration of Brian’s life will be held Friday, Dec. 4/15 at 1 pm at Burkeview Chapel, 1340 Dominion Ave, Port Coquitlam. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Vancouver.
