Darryl passed away at the age of 61 after suffering from an unexpected stroke. He is survived by his wife Joan; daughters Alana and Krysta; brother Carey (Amy) and several nieces and nephews.
Darryl was born and raised in Winnipeg. Graduating from University of Manitoba as a geological engineer, Darryl worked with Schlumberger as a Professional Engineer before changing careers to become a lawyer. After meeting his wife Joan at University of Victoria law school, Darryl started his second career in Vancouver as a litigation lawyer with Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP. Darryl practised law for seven years before taking early retirement after suffering a malignant brain tumour.
Darryl enjoyed a rich and full life, cancer free, for 27 years after first being diagnosed. He practised tai chi and yoga, played guitar, loved to sing and travel around the world. Darryl was the master of telling bad jokes (on which he thrived). Most of all, Darryl loved to watch his daughters grow up and make him proud. Husband, father, brother and best friend, he will be missed – may he rest in peace.
There will be a Memorial for Darryl at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024 at First Memorial Funeral Services Burkeview Chapel, 1340 Dominion Ave, Port Coquitlam, BC.
