Darryl was born on June 5, 1964, to Harold and Joyce Foulds in Edmonton, Alberta. At age 5, the growing Foulds family moved to Delta, BC. Darryl enjoyed telling his many stories of his upbringing including those involving the many long-lasting and cherished friendships. Often, with each story including elements of him getting in just enough trouble.
In 1990, Darryl met Martha (Marty), and after some time as friends, they soon became inseparable and engaged within months. In 1996, Darryl and Marty eloped, with Darryl insisting on a Dairy Queen cake. “Have you ever not finished a piece of Dairy Queen cake?” he asked rhetorically. Even 28 years later, he was very proud to tell everyone that he thought it may have been the first wedding cake that the Duncan Dairy Queen location had ever made. In 1997, their son, Dylan, was born, with Paige following in 2001. Their family was complete, and always Darryl’s priority.
Throughout the almost 35 years of adventures, Darryl and Marty spent time traveling around the world, riding the Harley-Davidson, and cheering Dylan and Paige in their many pursuits. Darryl spent most of his working career at BC Rapid Transit Company, where he formed more cherished friendships, many spanning decades. He was well known for his storytelling, often laughing the entire time because the memory brought him so much amusement. Darryl made friends wherever he went. He was always looking to give a helping hand. That is just how Darryl rolled!
Darryl is preceded in death by his father, Harold and brother-in-law Doug. He is survived by his wife, Martha, son, Dylan, and daughter Paige, mother, Joyce, sisters Diane (late husband Doug and children Alyssa, Kaitlyn), Michelle (husband Gino and children Jordan, Jessica (R.Jay)) and Karen (husband Rick and children Lisah (Kelly), Emma, Elisabeth, Kathleen) along with many loving relatives in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
While Darryl enjoyed life to the fullest, it was cut too short, and he will be sorely missed. Darryl’s celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at First Memorial Funeral Services, Burkeview Chapel, 1340 Dominion Ave, Port Coquitlam, BC V3B 8G7, at 1:00 p.m. We look forward to hearing the many “Darryl” stories.
We thank all those at Vancouver General Hospital, Eagle Ridge Hospital and BC Cancer that put great efforts into Darryl’s care. Even as a patient, Darryl tried to be the best he could be. He so appreciated and spoke so well of all his dedicated doctors and nurses, as well as his longtime family physician, Dr. Polay. Those that wish to make a donation in memory of Darryl, can do so to BC Cancer.
