Ernie is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of almost 70 years, daughters Lori (Dan) and Sandra (Mike), grandsons Jordan, Jason, Dustin and Derek, and great grandchildren Elijah and Baylee.
Born in Winnipeg, Man., on Sept. 14, 1924, to Otto and Anna Nelson, Ernie was predeceased by his sisters Althea, Eileen and Ruth. He is survived by his brother Ed (Fern) and many nieces and nephews.
Ernie moved his family to Port Moody in 1966 with a transfer from E.H Price Ltd and lived in the beautiful Glenayre subdivision for 53 years, making many friends over that time. Ernie and Elizabeth moved to Parkwood Manor in 2019.
Ernie will be lovingly remembered for his calm outlook on life and his passion for his vegetable garden. He especially took great pleasure growing tomatoes, starting them early in the spring from seed.
The family would like to thank all the staff and management at Parkwood for their kindness and help over the last few weeks and continuing support and care. We would also like to thank Dr. Carlson, Dr. Eddy and the whole palliative care team at McKenney Creek Hospice for the compassionate care they gave to Dad and our family during his final days.
Donations to the Canadian Cancer society would be much appreciated in lieu of flowers, no service by request.
