SLAWSON, Frederick John

December 5, 1946 – April 26, 2021

Fred passed on quietly in his home at The Madison Care Centre in Coquitlam, BC. He was 74 years old, weakened by the affects of Alzheimer’s disease. Fred was born and raised in Burnaby, BC., the only son of John Henry and Queenie Henrietta (Holdom) Slawson. A graduate of SFU, he had a fulfilling career in computer science with Microtel and Telus.

Fred’s wife, Linda Marie (Deutscher) passed on in 2014. They did not have children. Fred and Linda both put their faith and hope in the Lord, Jesus. Over the years they were involved in Royal Oak (Burnaby), Burnett Fellowship (Maple Ridge) and Calvary (Coquitlam) Baptist churches. Fred is lovingly remembered by the Bruce and Donna Peterson and Robert and Evelyn Bruneski families who ‘adopted’ Fred when he married Linda.

A memorial tribute to Fred will be aired on Sunday, May 16 at 4pm PDT on the Calvary Baptist Church (Coquitlam) YouTube Channel. Contact the church for an email link to the channel.

Fred was faithful and consistent, bringing beautiful worship to the congregation as well as the care homes. In the latter, even when residents were not always 'in the present' and the words of encouragement would sometimes hasten their afternoon naps, the music would rouse them to join in again and worship. When I would on occasion be doing the talking, and noticed the growing heaviness of eyelids in the room, I realized the deeper ministry in that setting may be the worship.

As a fellow member of the Calvary Worship Team, I came to respect Fred's knowledge of music and attention to detail. (He would sometimes advise the Worship leader as to how the song was written and should be played!)
It was always a pleasure to play with him. He was a rock solid and caring musician.
We seemed to see 'eye to eye' on so many things - I will miss his quiet, and unasumming service to the Lord.
Rest in peace my friend - in the great orchestra in heaven!

Fred was a kind, compassionate and gentle person and very diligent with all that he did. He was a great piano player and I enjoyed learning from him. I will miss our times putting together services with our Care Home Team, dinners with our family and our walks and conversations. We are blessed as a family to have known Fred and have seen his love for God and others displayed in his quiet and faithful way.

Bruce and I enjoyed Fred's talent on the piano. He was a quiet man, humble but talented.
He will be missed. Our condolences to the family.
