As the eldest of 10 siblings, George was always happiest surrounded by friends and family, revelling in their happy banter and chaotic clatter. He lived his life his way, full of adventure, driven by a need to push himself out of his comfort zone and try new things. His 24 years in the military allowed him to experience the world on exercises, and the whole of Canada through postings, no doubt fueling his desire to travel and explore. After retiring from the Air Force, several employment opportunities and entrepreneurial ventures offered him the perfect chance to meet people, seek adventure, and develop his business acumen. Never one to sit still long, he moved to China in his 70's to live and to teach ESL to students eager to learn English. He returned to Canada only recently over concerns for his health.
A Celebration of George's life will be held at a later date, and will likely involve laughter, lively discussions, and playing of the spoons!
Thank you to the staff of the George Derby Centre in Coquitlam, BC for their kindness and care in his last days.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made to the George Derby Centre in George's name at http://www.georgederby.ca/donate.html.
