

Jack Harder: August 19, 1928 – January 17, 2020
Jacob Harder (Jack) passed away peacefully on January 17, 2020 in Burnaby.
Jack was born on the family farm near Humboldt, Saskatchewan, the fifth of eight children, to John Harder and Anna (Wiens) Harder.
The family moved to Greendale, BC in 1936 and Jack graduated from Chilliwack High School. He joined the Bank of Montreal in 1947 and retired in 1985. During his time with the bank, Jack was posted to numerous branches throughout BC. These experiences were integral to his abiding interest in the geography and history of the province.
Jack also worked in Whitehorse, where he met the love of his life—Lorraine. They were married in September of 1958 and raised three children.
In 1967, they moved to Coquitlam where they lived for over fifty years.
After retirement, Jack enjoyed hiking, curling, golf, and pursuits at the much-loved family cabin at Gun Lake. He also volunteered with great enthusiasm for 25 years in building the Trans-Canada Trail and with activities at his church.
Jack is survived by his wife Lorraine; his children Karen (Everett), James (Mary), and Wendi (Cam); three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers Nick and Ben; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends its gratitude to the staff at Eagle Ridge Hospital and St. Michael’s Hospice for their compassionate care of Jack.
A celebration of his life will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services Burkeview Chapel: 1340 Dominion Ave, Port Coquitlam on Friday, February 7, at 1:00 pm Preceeded by a Obituary for Memorial
