“May Flights of Angels Sing Thee to Thy Rest”
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Nanny, and Great-grandmother, Jane Anne Rockwood (Abbott) 91, on Wednesday August 14, 2024, at Shaughnessy Seniors Community in Port Coquitlam, B.C.
Jane was born on February 27, 1933 in Vancouver, British Columbia to loving parents Harold and Kathleen Abbott. Jane grew up in Vancouver, and met her late husband Edmund Rockwood at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, where he was ordained an Anglican Minister. Soon after Edmund’s ordination, Jane and Edmund were married on April 30, 1955.
Embarking on many years of missionary work, Jane and Edmund began their mission residing in the Yukon Territory of Northern Canada, in the spring of 1955. As well as a devoted wife and mother, Jane was a devout Christian and was extremely dedicated to her role as a clergy's wife, which she honoured and respected. By teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and as an active member of the Anglican Church Women (ACW), she was an exemplary parishioner of the Anglican Church.
Jane had a nurturing quality that was largely exemplified by the love she had for her many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she cherished and held dear to her heart. Although Jane spent many years raising her own children, she continually strived to be an integral part of her grandchildren’s lives.
With Jane’s many talents she expressed love in so many ways. By knitting sweaters for her grandchildren, mittens for the less fortunate, and hats for premature babies; Jane’s love and generosity was endless. Her bountiful flower and vegetable gardens, revealed a true testament to her character, with countless hours of feeding her plants, as well as her soul; her endearing spirit will never be forgotten.
Jane is predeceased by her loving husband Rev. Edmund Rockwood, her parents Harold and Kathleen Abbott, and sister Karen. She will be sadly missed by her loving children Gerald, Paul, Barbara (Garth), Godfrey (Nancy), Brenda (Brent), Mark (Jana), and Elaine. Grandchildren Melissa, Alison, Brittany, Joel, Kyle, Blair, Ashley, Justine, Michael, Mathew, Jonathan, Adam, Amanda, and Lauren. Great-grandchildren Aidan, Avery, Lincoln, Reegan, and John. Surviving sister Barbara and many friends and relatives.
A memorial service for Jane will be held Friday September 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at First Memorial Funeral Services-Burkeview Chapel, 1340 Dominion Avenue, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia V3B 8G7; reception to follow.
