It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful Mom, Paula Mariette Colette Jackson Billing, on April 27th, at the age of 94, at Nicola Lodge in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. Beloved mother of her four sons Ralph (Heather), Wyatt (Sharon), David (Jean), and Robert and loving grandmother to her four grandchildren Lynsey (John Paul), Kimberly (Jean Philippe), Kelly (Matthew), Alexa, and her step-grandchildren Melissa and Jason and great grandmother to her five great grand-daughters Renée, Félixe, Margot, Willow, and Zya. She leaves behind her loving brother Robert Jackson and caring sister-in-law Jacynte. Predeceased by Stuart, her dear husband of 56 years, her sister Liliane Boisvert, her brother Paul Jackson, and her parents Walter and Zepherina Marie-Rose. She also is leaving behind her much loved sister-in-law Gaby Jackson, nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many friends.
Our Mom was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec. She worked at Bell Telephone as an Operator in Sherbrooke, where she met our Dad, and they raised their children in Sherbrooke, then Valleyfield, before settling in Greenfield Park, Quebec. After raising her family Mom undertook volunteer French tutoring at Jubilee School and then resumed her career with Bell Telephone in Account Administration until her retirement. In her retirement years, our Mom and Dad spent much of their time at our waterfront cottage on Lake Memphremagog in Newport Vermont, USA, where they hosted many get-togethers with family and friends. They also spent several winters in Florida with our Uncle Win and Auntie Ollie.
Our Mom attended St. Paul’s Church and was an active member of TOPS in Greenfield Park. She moved to Brossard in 2007 and then to St. Lambert in 2014. Our Mom moved to British Columbia in 2015 to be closer to her son David and his wife Jean and enjoyed living at the beautiful Parkwood Manor in Coquitlam for several years. During her final years our Mom was well cared for by staff at Nicola Lodge in Port Coquitlam.
Our Mom made many dear friends over the years and we often said, “To know her is to love her”. Our Mom was a devoted and loving wife, a caring and adoring Mom, and a doting Grandma who will be greatly missed. She cherished her family right up to the very end. Her family was everything to her and she was everything to us. We miss our Mom very much but we are comforted by our wonderful memories and with the thought that she is now at peace.
We will be having a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on July 4th, 2023 at 1 pm, to be officiated by Reverend Linda Faith Chalk, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 94 in Greenfield Park, Quebec, for family and friends. Interment will be at the Elmwood Cemetery in Sherbrooke, Quebec on July 5th, 2023 at 11 am, to be attended by immediate family.
Condolences and memories of our Mom can be posted on the First Memorial Funeral Services, Burkeview Chapel website at Paula Jackson Billing Obituary - Port Coquitlam, BC (dignitymemorial.com)
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia would be greatly appreciated.
