LOUGHTON - William Reece, "Bill", age 84, of Port Moody, BC passed gently through the veil on December 22 at Foyer Maillard in Coquitlam. His wife of 63 years, Norma, by his side to the end. Over the past eighteen years, they journeyed together through the challenges and struggles that come with vascular dementia.
Bill was a man of his times and context. Over the course of his 45 year career with MacMillan Bloedel, he worked his way up through the ranks in Chemainus, Alberni, Canadian White Pines and head office in Vancouver. Although he served the company in several capacities and departments, it is without question that his best years were the ones spent in Log Supply where he could be found jaunting up the coast by float plane, out on the log booms in his cork boots or on a river tug while booms were being moved up to the mills. He was well respected among his professional community.
Bill provided well for his family and he believed that his daughters, could and would, accomplish great things. Somehow, he always managed to be present in those moments when only a father's wisdom could calm the storms that life brings. His greatest joy came with the arrival of his grandbabies, which he would bundle up and take out for their first introduction to the neighbourhood and whom he took great delight watching them grow.
An exceptional amateur golfer and when he retired he joined the teams at Westwood Plateau, the Academy and Meadow Gardens as a marshal.
Bill is predeceased by his parents Cecil and Agnes Loughton, his infant sister Gladys, his parents-in-law George and Lillian Nash, and the son-he-never-had his very dearly loved son-in-law Stephen Snowden. He is survived by his wife Norma Lillian (nee: Nash) and their four daughters, Valerie Britton (Renee), Kathy Krulitsky, Connie Loughton (Ray Tickson) of the Lower Mainland and Pamela Loughton (Sean Hirtle) of Stratford, Ontario. He will be missed dearly by his six grandchildren, Noah and Ruth Krulitsky, Reece Tucker, Mackenzie Loughton, Courtenay and Averie Tickson and his great granddaughter, Ava Krulitsky; his sister Alice Lafleur of Agassiz and his brother, Robert Loughton (Frances) of Port Coquitlam.
The family wishes to acknowledge the care that Bill received in his final months at Foyer Maillard and we are grateful for the attention and comfort provided to him by the care team over his final days.
There will be no funeral service. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations can be made in his name to: Alzheimer Society of B.C., 300-828 W. 8th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 1E2 or online at
