Born Winnie Wilcox, February 3, 1921 in Sutton – Surrey, England, one of 9 children, daughter of John and Florence. Beloved wife of George (March 1990) a Canadian soldier, they married March 8, 1941. Cherished mother of predeceased sons, Tom (Maureen, daughters Dawn and Joy) and Rodney (Vivian, Linda, son Allen, great granddaughter Megan and son Timmy (Margherita)) were born in England, survived “the blitz” and emigrated to Montreal in 1944. Four more children joined the family in Canada: daughter Sharon (son Mark (Kim), daughter Jennifer and great grandson Nicholas), son Gary (Marnie, son Craig, great granddaughter Peyton, son Chad (Donna), great grandchildren Reese and Emily), daughter Laurie (Bill, daughter Haley (Amar), great granddaughter Abigail Winnie, daughter Hillary (Tanner), son Brian (Wendy, daughter Carley (Colton), great granddaughter Teagan).
A gentle and warm person, Winnie was easy with her laugh which was sometimes mischievous. A war bride, she kept her English accent and often beautifully reading poems at Hawthorne in remembrance of others. Adored by family, friends and acquaintances, she will always be treasured and missed. Death will never separate us.
A celebration of Winnie will be held Thursday, February 20th at 1.00 PM at Burkeview Chapel. 1340 Dominion Avenue, Port Coquitlam. Expressions of condolence can be left www.firstmemorialportcoquitlam.com
