Andrew “Andy” Williams, 88, of Binghamton, NY, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026, with his wife by his side. He was born December 18, 1937, Andy lived a life marked by steady devotion—to his country, to his work, and to the people he loved.
Born in Chattanooga, TN, Andy spent his first 12 years there before being raised in Chicago, experiences that helped shape the grounded, determined spirit he carried throughout his life.
In 1956, Andy joined the Air Force and served in Okinawa, Japan as an Air Policeman. He was honorably discharged in 1962, concluding his military service with the same sense of duty that would define the decades that followed.
Andy went on to a long and distinguished career with the Federal Government of Veteran Affairs at Loma Linda Medical Center, where he served for 40 years. During that time, he earned several federal service certificates in motivational dynamics and narcotics inspections, along with multiple service awards recognizing his dedicated work. In a poignant final honor, Andy received his last award on the date of his passing. He later continued his career at Jerry Pettis Memorial Hospital in Long Beach, CA, bringing the same professionalism and commitment to every role he held.
Andy truly loved his work, and that pride in service was matched by a deep appreciation for the wider world. He found joy in traveling and embraced life with an open horizon—taking 80 cruises and seeing places that reflected his enduring curiosity and appreciation for new experiences.
Andy was predeceased by his first wife of 40 years, Elaine Williams, with whom he resided in Jacksonville, FL; by his grandmother Hattie Williams; and by his mother, Irene Williams.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Molly; step daughter, Giselle; father-in-law Michael Balanda; and brother-in-law Daniel Balanda (Danielle).
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Andy’s close friends, Daniel Matthews and Steven Flint, for the help they provided, and to Guthrie Hospice for their exceptional care.
