Barbara Jane (Franklin) Kocak of Binghamton, NY passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026, at the age of 92. In death she reunites with her beloved husband John who predeceased her in 1994, parents Charles and Charlotte Franklin and brother Charles Franklin. She is lovingly remembered by her children, John (Laurie) Kocak and Joyce (Steve) Sherwood; cherished grandchildren, Dr. Kimberly (Dr. Mark) Schlam, John (Ashley) Kocak and Dr. Jack Sherwood; adored great-grandchildren; special nieces and nephews; and a treasured collection of lifelong friends.
Born in Clarks Summit, PA, Barbara's family built a beautiful life in Endicott, NY. She graduated from Union Endicott High School class of 1952 and proudly earned her associate’s degree from Broome Community College at age 56. She held purchasing positions at General Electric and Link Aviation.
Barbara unconditionally loved her family and lived a purposeful and happy life. She found joy in the simple things: attending grandchildren's school events, lunch with friends, baking Christmas cookies, sending cards and reading. Her unwavering faith was her anchor, and she was ready to join her husband and family that passed before her. Her legacy of love and friendship will continue to inspire those that knew her. Our hearts are heavy, but we find comfort knowing that she is now in heaven dancing the polka with John. A special thank you to the staff at Elizabeth Church Manor for their compassionate care.
A funeral mass will be offered at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1049 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY on Friday, September 25 at 10am. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 9am until the start of the mass. Private burial will follow in the Slovak Catholic Cemetery, Johnson City, NY.
