He was born in Binghamton, NY on March 6, 1954.
He is survived by his loving & devoted mother Margaret (NY), older brother Robert (TX), younger brother Kenneth (NH), Aunt Jean Sutter (NY), cousins & many lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth L. Munney, Sr. in 2016.
Brian graduated from Chenango Valley High School in 1972 and Binghamton University in 1976. He worked for the Grand Way Dept. Store while attending college and then Columbia Mutual Insurance Co., as an insurance auditor after graduation. He left Binghamton in 1979 for the open road & explored the Eastern & Southern coasts before heading to the wilds of the West. He eventually settled in San Diego where he managed an apartment complex but returned to Binghamton to teach at Seton Catholic High School before again heading out on the road and ending up in Houston, TX with family & friends. He spent the next 40 years teaching mathematics at Robert E. Lee High School & Robert M. Beren Academy. A gifted teacher of all levels of math, he taught thousands of students over the years. He was supremely dedicated and developed meaningful relationships with them, while using real world explorations & maintaining high standards. In 2012 he was awarded Teacher of the Year at Beren Academy.
Brian was a great son, brother & loyal friend to many in Binghamton & Houston. He was comprehensively knowledgeable and informed about many subjects and a voracious reader of National Geographic, Smithsonian, Audubon, historical non-fiction & science fiction. He was also an avid Rock & Blues aficionado attending many shows and working at the Sound Warehouse for many years in Houston. He was a dedicated weightlifter & exercise fanatic, rehabilitating himself from major health events in 2014 & 2017. He worked hard on whatever he started & was an invaluable asset to his family; keeping the family home up to spec since he moved back in 2018. He was also very dedicated to the care and safekeeping of his Mom over the years. Perhaps the greatest joy & passion of his life was hiking & exploring National Parks, Monuments and Public Lands out West every Summer after school ended for over 25 years. The memories, photos and stories stayed with him and us long after he had to stop due to health challenges. He loved home projects, the family vegetable garden, jigsaw puzzles and outdoor grilling. He will be hugely missed by his family and all those who loved him.
